Reading the Arctic
BIBLIOBRIDGE — READING THE ARCTIC is collaboration between the Stormen Library in Bodø, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø Library and NArFU Intellectual Center-Scientific Library.
The project is supposed to exchange information and create dissemination of Arctic explorers from Russia and Norway, develop new opportunities for cooperation between the libraries across the borders, as well as building bridges between the library staff in the Barents region.
We have all heard about the great Norwegian arctic explorers, but what about the other ones? In Norway we know little or nothing about the Russian arctic explorers, and in Russia the knowledge about other explorers than Amundsen and Nansen is quite small as well. A cross border library project between Norwegian and Russian partners can change this. This project is an initial project, trying to find out what we know about each other’s explorers, what resources and research the different university library have available, what would be expedient to exchange, what exhibitions could we develop and where to exhibit them. And at last: how could municipal libraries in Norway and Russia host and promote such exhibitions.
We also plan to have round table discussions to exchange information, and develop new ways of Cooperation across borders, bridging our libraries and out competence closer together.
Our main target is to exchange knowledge on library matters and develop common knowhow about Arctic explorers between the library staff. In addition we will have a plan for better exhibit the Arctic explorers to our library visitors.
Overall result: joint resources of university and municipal libraries integrated to meet the ever growing needs of different users of getting knowledge about the Arctic, share or exchange information, ideas in virtual communities and networks.
